upfall

leaves - green

She looks up, never down at those descending leaves,
fugacious in their disguise as blossoms,
the way they curve in a smile
reflecting dull sunlight
their spines aquiver
gently oscillating
as they dance
and crack
amidst the air
before they crumble
into an unscented heap
hiding away in the shadow
of the old tree at which this very
neglected pastiche forms beneath her for
she looks up and never down at those descended leaves.
